MKO has recently secured planning permission on behalf of Trean Meadow Limited for a high quality residential scheme in the townlands of Ballybrit and Doughiska, Co. Galway.

Working in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary design team involving project architects, engineers and ecologists, MKO secured full planning permission for the development of 102 no. residential units and a childcare facility.

The project was submitted under the Strategic Housing Development (SHD) process, which allows applicants seeking permission for large-scale residential schemes of 100 housing units or more (or student accommodation projects containing 200 or more bed spaces) to apply directly to An Bord Pleanála in a bid to cut down on the time it takes to make a decision.

MKO formed an integral part of the design team, providing planning advice on the development strategy for the site. MKO also provided advice on the detailed technical reports and drawings required to support the SHD application. The design approach adopted for the proposed development has taken cognisance of the context of the surrounding landscape and ecological constraints and is compatible with policy objectives of the Galway City Development Plan.

Having regard to the policy framework for the area and the content of the application, An Bord Pleanála deemed that the proposed development would be in accordance with the proper planning and sustainable development of the area.

MKO has considerable experience in bringing forward and project managing applications through the Strategic Housing Development process for a wide range of residential and student accommodation schemes.
