MKO is seeking to recruit a  Renewable Energy Project Manager offering an outstanding opportunity for the right candidate to develop and progress a career in a dynamic and fast-growing industry, truly making a difference in the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy.

The Role

The Renewable Energy Project Manager will be responsible for the management and coordination of early stage renewable energy projects, ensuring a robust, structured and prioritised pipeline of work stages are managed and maintained. This role will drive projects through the development pipeline from feasibility to pre-planning. It will ultimately help the achievement of ambitious national renewable energy targets in the coming years.

The Renewable Energy Project Manager will be the primary point of contact and liaison between the various MKO teams and our clients through the early stages of renewable energy projects, encompassing environmental and feasibility assessment, landowner engagement and agreements, project communications, grid connection feasibility, ecological surveys and project budgets. The ideal candidate will manage and coordinate a portfolio of multiple projects, including:

  • Proposing, agreeing and implementing strategies for progressing the various steps with the client, based on site project risk profile and client risk attitude
  • Coordinating activities and ensuring that the various teams who will deliver the activities have ample foresight of forthcoming workload
  • Progress reporting to clients
  • Ensuring project strategy decisions are made promptly and based on up to date and accurate information
  • Developing, monitoring and keeping up to date project programmes
  • Assessing and managing risks to project programmes and maintaining project risk registers
  • Pipeline forecasting
  • Administration of agreed project budgets and reporting on spend

Key requirements

The ideal candidate will have excellent project management skills, great communications skills: both written and verbal and excellent IT skills. They will be ambitious and self-motivated, while being comfortable in a team environment. They will have the ability to adapt quickly and to thrive in a fast-moving environment where multiple different options must be evaluated regularly and appropriate actions recommended.

Candidates should have a proven track record in:

  • Leading/coordinating multi-disciplinary collaborations
  • Successfully managing client relationships
  • Managing project data and preparing project reports
  • Managing multiple concurrent projects

Candidates must have:

  • Suitable degree in engineering, science, planning or other relevant discipline
  • 6 years post-graduation work experience in a relevant field
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Project or equivalent scheduling package

Previous experience of renewable energy, or similar, consenting processes would be an advantage but is not an absolute requirement. Chartered status in a relevant discipline is also advantageous but not an absolute requirement.
