Issues Paper for the Galway County Development Plan 2022-2028
In accordance with Part 2 Section 11 (1) of the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended) Galway County Council intends to review the existing Galway County Development Plan 2015-2021 and to prepare a new Galway County Development Plan 2022–2028.
A development plan is in force for a period of 6 years. The Development Plan process comprises of 3 stages i.e.:
- Pre-Draft /Issues Stage
- Draft Development Plan
- Amendments to Draft Development Plan
The Galway County Development Plan review is at Stage 1 Pre-Draft.
In order to encourage participation in this process, the Planning Authority has prepared an Issues Paper. This Issues Paper will be available for viewing on www.galway.ie/cdpreview and also during public opening hours at the moment by appointment only in the Planning Section, Galway County Council, Áras an Chontae, Prospect Hill, Galway from Thursday 18th June 2020 to Thursday 10th September 2020 (inclusive).
In addition, video clips have been prepared which give a brief summary of the topics and issues that are present in the county and a number of questions are posed during each clip. These can also be viewed on www.galway.ie/cdpreview.
Submissions can be made during this consultation period however it is important to note that submissions made at this stage of the process cannot make any reference to zoning. Submissions at this stage can only relate to high level matters for example Core Strategy and Housing, Urban Living and Place Making, Renewable Energy and the Environment. Submissions relating to the zoning of lands is made at the next stage of the development review process (Stage 2 Draft Development Plan) which is scheduled to start towards the end of 2020.

Galway City Council
Proposed Variations to the Galway City Development Plan 2017-2023
It is proposed to vary the Galway City Development Plan 2017-2023 in respect of the following:
Proposed Variation No.5: To align the Development Plan with the National Planning Framework (NPF), Regional Spatial Economic Strategy (RSES) and Galway Metropolitan Area Strategic Plan (MASP) and to incorporate the Galway City Council Climate Adaptation Strategy.
Proposed Variation No.6: To insert a Specific Development Objective on RA zoned lands at Cappagh Park to allow for consideration of an Aquatic Sports and Fitness Centre.
Submissions and observations in relation to the Proposed Variations to the Galway City Development Plan 2017-2023 can be made from Thursday 30th July to Monday 31st August 2020 at 4pm.
South Dublin County Council
Issues Paper for the South County Dublin Development Plan 2022-2028
South Dublin County Council are commencing the review of the current South County Dublin Development Plan 2016-2022 and are preparing a new County Development Plan that will set out the framework to guide future development up to 2028. The Plan sits within a hierarchy of plans and is required to have a Core Strategy which will show that the objectives in the plan are consistent with the objectives set out in National and Regional Strategies.
Submissions and observations in relation to the Issues Paper for the South County Dublin Development Plan 2022-2028 can be made from the 31st of July to the 28th of September 2020.
Kerry County Council
Draft Paper for An Daingean Local Area Plan 2020-2026
Kerry County Council has made a Draft Local Area Plan for the An Daingean Electoral Area. In accordance with Section 20(3)(f) of the Planning & Development Act 2000 (as amended), the planning authority has prepared environmental reports of the likely significant effects on the environment of implementing the local area plan.
Submissions and observations in relation to the Draft An Daingean Local Area Plan 2020-2026 can be made from Thursday 13th August until Friday 2nd October 2020.
Limerick City and County Council
Issues Paper for the Limerick City and County Development Plan 2022-2028
The Limerick Development Plan presents and opportunity to the general public to shape Limerick for the future and ‘have your say’ when it comes to important issues such as housing, economic development, community, and heritage. Your input into this process by considering the ‘bigger picture’ issues facing Limerick, is crucial to its success. The issues and questions outlined are by no means exhaustive, instead acting as a guide to stimulate thoughts, feedback, and debate on guiding the future of Limerick.
Submissions and observations in relation to the Issues Paper for the Limerick City and County Development Plan 2022-2028 can be made until October 12th, 2020.
Offaly County Council
Offaly County Development Plan 2021-2027
Offaly County Council has commenced the review of the existing Offaly County Development Plan 2014-2020 by preparing the new Offaly County Development Plan 2021-2027. The pre-draft Offaly County Development Plan 2021-2027 was amended by elected members and agreed to be the Draft Offaly County Development Plan 2021-2027 on 13th July 2020.
Submissions and observations in relation to the Draft Offaly County Development and the preparation of the new Leitrim County Development Plan 2022-2028 and can be made from Monday 27th July 2020 to Wednesday 7th October 2020 and 4.00pm (inclusive).
Waterford City and County Council
Waterford City and County Development Plan 2022-2028
Waterford City and County Council is commencing the preparation of the City and County Development Plan 2022-2028. The City and County Development Plan sets out a framework or blueprint for the proper planning and sustainable development for the whole of Waterford for a six-year period. In developing the plan, we will build on our previous successes and our strategic advantages as a county. We will aim to maximise the strengths of our citizens, communities, built and natural heritage, infrastructure, and tourism, to their full potential.
Submissions and observations in relation to the Waterford City and County Development Plan Issues Paper and the preparation of the Waterford City and County Development Plan 2022-2028 can be made from 20th July 2020 to 14th September 2020 at 5.00pm (inclusive).
