MKO secured permission for 3 no. grid connection underground cables to serve three wind farm projects in County Mayo. The 3 wind farms (Ballykinava, Cloontooa and Magheramore) were all proximate to each other and their grid connection routes were inter-related. Prior to lodging the planning permissions preliminary discussions were held with the Planning Authority in relation to the projects. Each of the grid connection applications were accompanied by Environmental Impact Statements (now referred to as Environmental Impact Assessment Reports) and Appropriate Assessment Screening Reports to ensure that the required cumulative assessments and procedures could be carried out to inform the decisions. All the grid connection applications were granted permission by the Planning Authority, and these projects are currently under construction.
