MKO secured planning permission in mid-2018 for a 19-turbine around Meenbog in Co. Donegal, on behalf of applicant Planree Ltd.

The permitted development comprised a wind farm comprising approximately 80MW and all associated works.  The permitted turbines have a maximum blade tip height of up to 156.5 metres, contained within an isolated and compact site comprising commercial forestry operations predominantly.

MKO completed multi-year bird surveys in accordance with the rigorous requirements of Scottish Natural Heritage guidance. The application’s EIAR and NIS also factors in the requirements arising from the O’Grianna and Daly High Court judgements in relation to wind farm grid connections.

The project’s planning application also had to contend with an uncertain and changing planning policy environment, in advance of the application being submitted and the decision by An Bord Pleanála being made.

MKO lodged an SID planning application directly to An Bord Pleanála on the 15th of December 2017. Planning permission for the Meenbog wind farm was granted on the 25th of June 2018.
