The Irish Wind Energy Association works with communities, members and stakeholders in championing the transition to a zero-carbon energy system with the development and operation of wind energy at its heart.

The Industry Awards were set up to recognise and celebrate the most original and innovative individuals and companies demonstrating excellence in their fields and the Irish wind energy sector. MKO were nominated for their work as lead Environmental & Planning consultant in bringing the Bord na Móna Cloncreen wind farm project successfully through the Strategic Infrastructure Development (SID) process.

The project comprised a 21 turbine wind farm, with proposed turbine height of up to 170m, 110 kV electricity substation and all ancillary site roads, infrastructure and grid connections.

Following receipt of the SID determination from An Bord Pleanála (ABP) in July 2016 confirming the project as Strategic Infrastructure, the EIAR and planning application were finalised and submitted to ABP in October 2016 with full planning permission granted by ABP in May 2017.

MKO are delighted to receive the award which is recognition by our peers of the high quality strategy advice and professional outputs across a wide range of disciplines required for any wind farm planning application. Many of the internal team who worked on the project were at the gala awards night which was held in Clontarf Castle in January and a great night was had by all.
