NatureScot (formerly Scottish Natural Heritage) have published a revision to the 2019 SNH guidance document: Bats and Onshore Wind Turbines – Survey, Assessment and Mitigation. This is a key guidance document that is used by ecological consultants to inform the key elements of ecological surveys, impact assessment and mitigation in relation to bats at wind farm sites.

The new August 2021 version of the guidance does not constitute a major overhaul; it includes some revisions related to recommended timings for surveys according to seasonal peaks in bat activity, amongst other minor changes. The document is referenced as: NatureScot published Bats and Onshore Wind Turbines: Survey, Assessment and Mitigation (NatureScot, 2021), and supersedes the previous 2019 document.
