The Ornithology team is spread out across Ireland and many members of the team are most often found out in the field on surveys. Therefore it is often field events that offer the opportunity for the team to meet up in person, catch up on work matters and add in some extra bird watching as a bonus.
The team met on one such occasion this September at Lough Boora Discovery Park in County Offaly. Here, we had the opportunity to go through in-person QGIS training and winter survey methodology training in preparation for the winter season ahead.
This was followed by a group walk through the NPWS Grey Partridge conservation area. While the grey partridge remained hidden for the day, the team enjoyed views of the beautiful habitats throughout the conservation area, observed large flocks of lapwing and geese and saw the occasional hunting kestrel.
The day finished up with a group lunch and the chance for a group photo.
