Grant of Permission for Hostel at Tonery’s Bar

Planning permission has been granted for a hostel development at Tonery’s Pub, 144 Bohermore, Galway. The hostel development comprise 163 no. rooms, the provision of a retail unit on a site, and public realm and landscaping provisions at the site. The development will provide much needed additional tourist accommodation as well as a local retail unit to the established residential area in Bohermore.

MKO acted as planning consultants on the project which has been successfully granted planning permission by Galway City Council.

The Planning and Development (Amendment) (Large-scale Residential Development) Bill 2021

The Planning and Development (Amendment) (Large-scale Residential Development) Bill 2021 is currently progressing through the Dáil. The Bill is set to replace the Strategic Housing Development regime (SHD) which is due to conclude on 25 February 2022, with the introduction of a new planning process for Large-Scale Residential Developments (LSRD). It is set out in the Bill that ‘large-scale residential development’ means development that includes:

  • the development of 100 or more houses,
  • the development of student accommodation that includes 200 or more bed spaces,
  • both the development of 100 or more houses and of student accommodation, or
  • both the development of student accommodation that includes 200 or more bed spaces and of houses,

Under the new regime outlined in the Bill for LSRD applications, there will be a three-stage process as follows:

  1. An eight week consultation phase with the planning authority.
  2. A standard application to the planning authority and an eight-week decision timeframe
  3. A final appeal stage where the decision may be appealed to An Bord Pleanála with a mandatory 16-week decision time frame.

Draft Kerry County Development Plan 2022-2028

The Draft Kerry County Development Plan 2022-2028 has been prepared in accordance with the provision of the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended). The Draft Plan is on public display from Monday 6th December 2021 to Wednesday 23rd February 2022 (both dates inclusive).

Submissions and observations are welcome and may be made either in electronic format at https://consult.kerrycoco.ie/ by using the ‘Make a Submission’ function, or in writing to Damien Ginty, Senior Planner, Planning Policy Unit, Kerry County Council, Rathass, Tralee, Co. Kerry, V92H7BT. Submissions in writing are to be clearly marked with ‘KERRY COUNTY DEVELOPMENT PLAN’.

Draft Dublin City Development Plan 2022-202

Dublin City Council is preparing a new Dublin City Development Plan. Stage 2 of the review process commenced on the 25th November 2021 with the public display of the Draft Development Plan. The public are invited to get involved in the review process and provide their views on the Draft Plan and its associated documentation.

Submissions and observations are welcomed throughout the public consultation period which will end at 4.30 pm on the 14th February 2022. All submissions will be published online in accordance with the requirements of the Planning Act. Submission can be made on the online consultation portal at https://consult.dublincity.ie/en/consultation/draft-dublin-city-development-plan-2022-2028, or by post to Development Plan Team, Planning and Property Development Department, Dublin City Council, Wood Quay, Dublin 8.
