Client consultation and support  (Construction)

The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013-2021 assign specific duties to any person/organisation for whom a project is carried out (the client). These duties include notification to the HSA, provision of information (Safety and Health Plan and Safety File), and appointment of competent designers, contractors and project supervisors. There is also an onerous duty on clients to ascertain the competency of those they appoint and to ensure they have allocated adequate resources to the project to ensure it can be completed safely. At MKO, our team offer expert advice to construction clients on all aspects of regulatory compliance. We can assist in HSA notification and liaison, gathering project-specific information for designers and project supervisors. We can also carry out competency and allocated resource assessments on project supervisors, designers and contractors to ensure that the client has fulfilled their duty in this regard and that competent persons are engaged to fulfil these safety-critical tasks.

Project Supervisor for the Design Process (PSDP)

MKO has a proven track record of successful completion of the role of PSDP on numerous construction projects. Our expertise ensures that all designers involved in the project communicate and cooperate to ensure all aspects of permanent and temporary works design are coordinated. We also focus on ensuring the designers take account of the general principles of prevention and make every effort to eliminate risks at the source at the design stage. This leads to safer construction and future use and maintenance of the structure and often also leads to client cost savings during the life of the building.

Accident and incident investigation

Understanding the root causes of accidents and dangerous occurrences is critical for an organisation in improving the health and safety of its staff and others affected by its work activities. With years experience in accident investigation, our team will work with organisations to identify the root causes of accidents and develop the appropriate practical remedial actions needed to prevent a reoccurrence. We can assist in completing the regulatory IR 1 or IR 3 forms and submitting these to the HSA, and completing a detailed internal accident report. We can provide support when dealing with the HSA, insurance companies and any other external party after an accident has occurred. We can also provide expert reports/statements for court proceedings and attend as expert witnesses.
