Proposal: As part of a joint venture by Bord na Móna Powergen Ltd. and ESB Wind Development Ltd., MKO were appointed to submit a planning application supported by an Environmental Impact Assessment Report for a large scale solar farm which would comprise of a solar photovoltaic (PV) array and associated infrastructure, a battery storage compound as well as a 110 kV substation and associated works at Timahoe North, Co. Kildare.
Due to the nature and scale of the project, it was necessary for MKO to submit a planning application to An Bord Pleanála seeking permission for the 110 kV infrastructure and associated works in accordance with Section 182A of the Planning and Development Acts 2000 to 2018, as well as submitting a second planning application to Kildare County Council for the Solar Farm, battery storage compound and associated works.
The Timahoe North site required input from surveys and site investigations to inform the design of the Proposed Project. Site investigations included trial pits with archaeological supervision, peat probing, hydrological mapping, spot measurement of flow and continuous water level monitoring as well as ecological and archaeological site visits to determine constraints. The proposed project takes account of all necessary constraints thus informing the most environmentally sensitive design.
Planning applications were submitted to both Kildare County Council and An Bord Pleanála in December 2018.
