The key objective of the project was to ensure the continued extraction of limestone rock and continued operation of the concrete batching plant at the existing Roadstone Kilchreest Quarry. Planning permission was granted for a 25-year operational and 2-year monitoring period. Rock will be extracted in four phases. Phased restoration will also be carried out as part of the project. A total of 1,950m of hedgerows and 3.9 hectares of native woodland will be replanted and re-instated as part of the project. In addition, as an enhancement measure, the BMP also includes for the management and reversion of improved agricultural grassland back to a species-rich calcareous grassland community which is typical of the area. 
 
MKO prepared the EIAR in order to document the current state of the environment in the vicinity of the proposed development site and to quantify the likely significant effects of the proposed development on the environment. MKO and the project teams’ detailed understanding of the geology, hydrogeology and ecology of the area allowed us to support the quarry operator to overcome the challenges at the site.   
 
Planning permission for the project was obtained on 28^th January 2026.
