Join MKO
People make companies, and the best people make the best companies. That’s why we are always excited to meet people that are enthusiastic and committed to furthering their careers in a busy and diverse work environment like MKO. Whether these people apply for current vacant positions, or otherwise make their skillsets and ambition known to us, we always want to find the best people possible to join and further strengthen the MKO team.
Whether someone joins MKO as a graduate or an experienced professional, the company’s professional development pathway is intended to ensure every team member is challenged and afforded the opportunity to progress their careers as far within the company as the scale of the business allows and their ambitions permit. We are committed to investing in our team and the advancement of their careers. The MKO professional development pathway empowers staff to take responsibility for their own career advancement and progression.
Why Join MKO
Training And Memberships
At MKO, we recognise that the future success and growth of our company rests entirely on the knowledge, skills, ambition and integrity of our people, and therefore we value these qualities most highly. MKO encourages all staff to partake in relevant training and apply for or renew memberships. Funding for further education is available, along with internal on the job training which is provided on a daily basis.
Knowledge Sharing Seminar
A Knowledge Sharing seminar is held monthly for all staff. Lunch is provided and each department takes the opportunity to provide an update on a project they have worked on, a relevant piece of legislation which effects day to day reporting or a topic they feel passionate about. For example, one of our latest sessions covered Bats. Did you know Tequila saves endangered bats? Bats feed on agave nectar and pollinate the plants while farmers get healthy, more diverse crops.
Career Progression
Our people partake in regular professional development reviews to check in on their career pathway, update their objectives and discuss their future career direction with their line manager. MKO’s most valuable asset is its people and their future in the company is of paramount importance. The future progression of our people may be a management position, technical excellence in their field of expertise, moving teams or exploring a new line of business.
Monday Morning
Each Monday morning a weekly meeting is held which updates staff on current projects, relevant news articles, recent decisions/judgements along with legislation updates. New members are welcomed to the company and are introduced to the team over tea and cake.
The Fun Stuff
Social events are a regular occurrence in MKO uniting the company from the four corners of Ireland. In addition to our annual Christmas party and Summer BBQ, we partake in annual golf, soccer and tag rugby tournaments along with Go karting, bowling and attendance at the Galway Races. MKO also participate in many 5km/10km runs along with hill walking excursions arranged at weekends. MKO are a great supporter of Connacht Rugby and staff enjoy season tickets to games throughout the championship.
One of the greatest social events held by MKO over the last couple of years however has been our archaeological trips. Over the last few years MKO were delighted to accompany Michael Gibbons, archaeologist, on an inspiring trip to the Skellig islands, the Blasket islands, Inisbofin and Black Sod.
Since 2018, MKO has teamed up with Cope Galway’s Helping Hands project. Once a month at two locations a number of staff participate in this initiative where residents are assisted with gardening and grounds tidy up.
New Opportunities
Have you got a business idea that could compliment our existing range of services?
Have you identified an opportunity in the planning or environmental marketplace that has significant potential?
If so, we would love to hear from you. MKO is always interested to meet creative, ambitious, business-orientated individuals with new ideas or that have identified new business opportunities. If your idea is good enough, we’ll give you the support needed to turn it into a business all of its own. We will consider a wide range of ideas or potential business opportunities. They may either be new opportunities within the services we already offer, or a new service that compliments those we already provide that can be marketed to our existing client base.
If you can demonstrate your idea is viable, we will give you the opportunity to make a job for yourself. If you have identified an opportunity, understand your potential market and have planned how the service will be offered to potential customers, get in contact with us to take things a step further.
