PROJECT Communications

The Bish Relocation

MKO’s Project Communications team managed the delivery of a strategically thought-out public consultation campaign for St Joseph’s Patrician College Galway (The Bish), a secondary school in Galway City, as they launched their plans to relocate to a green-field site from their historic home in Nun’s Island. MKO designed and implemented a media and stakeholder engagement campaign to highlight the need for a new school, to accommodate the growing numbers of pupils expected to enrol in The Bish over the coming years and to extol the benefits that a brand-new, state-of-the-art campus will provide for the city in the future.

Project challenges

Previous attempts to gain community support for this move were hampered, and some zoning issues needed to be addressed. Once the correct zoning conditions were in place, The Bish project team decided to move forward with their plans. The challenge was to ensure The Bish was proactive in announcing their new plans to all stakeholders, including near neighbours of the new school, local and national politicians, and the media.

This required careful consideration and planning, not just in the wording of updates but also in when they were delivered to the relevant stakeholders. The objective was to ensure that all stakeholders heard firsthand from The Bish project team of the updated plans and timelines. Thankfully this objective was achieved with the engagement campaign culminating in a well-organised and well-attended public consultation event.
