Last year was busy for our Landscape and Visual team, providing Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments (LVIAs) and verified photomontages for over 35 planning applications for various projects.
LVIA is a discipline of ever-growing importance and interest in the planning world, as both the general public and planning authorities often take a keen interest in how our landscapes and views will change. Large-scale changes to the rural and urban landscapes of Ireland will occur in the coming years and decades. Significant landscape change will arise as substantial development is required to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow. Whether it is the transition to green energy, addressing the housing crisis, or tackling unknown challenges of the future; development on an unprecedented scale will be necessary to meet the demands of a progressive modern society.
LVIA and verified photomontage visualisations will play a key role in ensuring that this large-scale development is sustainable by providing planning authorities with the appropriate information they need to make an informed decision on the suitability of projects concerning inevitable changes in the landscape and scenic amenities.
Our Landscape and Visual team has enjoyed working on a wide assortment of projects in 2024, including LVIAs, graphics and feasibility studies. LVIA and Graphics work were produced for projects across a wide range of sectors, including wind, solar and other renewable energy infrastructure, housing, commercial and urban developments, sustainable quarry and extraction development, transport infrastructure and also large-scale flood defence schemes.
As we start 2025, our Landscape and Visual team look forward to the projects and challenges of the new year. As always, we will be keeping a keen eye on updates to best practice LVIA guidance and any new emerging methods and processes. This year we will be leveraging technological innovation and the emerging drone surveying and 3D visualisation services at MKO to add greater value to our LVIAs and visual products for clients, planning authorities and the general public.
