MKO secured planning permission and retention planning permission for a pharma-tech commercial development comprising a 160-no. space remotely located car park, a remotely located two-storey temporary office accommodation, a two-storey Lab, production and office expansion, a two-storey packaging expansion, a double height warehouse with single story office accommodation, retention of a single-story temporary lab accommodation, demolition of a two storey temporary accommodation, demolition of a house and associated outbuildings and all ancillary facilities and services required at Abbott Diagnostics, Lisnamuck, Co Longford.

Project challenges

The proposed development represents a significant expansion to a leading health diagnostic manufacturer in Ireland. This facility plays a crucial role in assisting Abbott to meet the increasing global demand for diagnostic testing in areas such as infectious disease, cancer, thyroid and cardiovascular diseases.

On the 2nd of February 2023, the applicant received a grant of permission from Longford County Council without any request for further information. No third-party appeals were submitted to An Bord Pleanála in respect of this development.

The c. 30,000 sq.m extension is part of an extensive €440m plan to expand various Abbott facilities across the country. The Longford expansion will allow Abbott to employ an additional 800 staff members once manufacturing begins.
