MKO welcomes the recent decision by An Bord Pleanála to grant planning permission for Sheskin South Wind Farm, located in northwest Co. Mayo. This project is a joint venture between SSE Renewables and FuturEnergy Ireland (FEI).
This large-scale, clean energy development will greatly assist in achieving Ireland’s climate and sustainability targets. The permitted site is located 6km northeast of the village of Bangor Erris and 30km northwest of Ballina. The project will comprise 18 turbines with a ground-to-blade tip height of 200m and a rotor diameter of 162m.
The permitted development will directly provide somewhere between 100 and 120 jobs during the construction phase which is expected to last 18 to 24 months. Sheskin South Wind Farm will potentially produce enough electricity to supply the equivalent of over 135,000 homes. The renewable energy project will displace around 6 million tonnes of carbon dioxide.
MKO began working on this project in early 2021 and led a large multidisciplinary team which provided environmental surveying and investigation services, planning advice, design input, community consultation input and preparation of the planning application.
MKO would like to take this opportunity to thank all of its internal teams, external contractors and all other stakeholders involved throughout this project and looks forward to strengthening and expanding on the collaboration with both SSE Renewables and FEI in the future.
