Good start to 2025 for wind farm consents

2025 has started off brightly for our Renewables team concerning wind farm planning decisions. The consent of the Glenard wind farm in county Donegal (c. 93MW) and the positive decision on the repowering of the Kilgarvan wind farm in county Kerry (c. 73MW) add a further 166MW of consented capacity to the over 360MW consented by MKO in 2024. The Glenard wind farm application, developed by FuturEnergy Ireland, was submitted in February 2022 and required over three years to reach a successful consent. The Kilgarvan repowering project, developed by Orsted, was submitted in May 2024 and received a positive decision in a 10-month period (end of March 2025). Both decisions are very welcome in the context of the challenging onshore wind target for 2030.
